Anne's First OSU Game

Visit to Columbus, OH

Steve and I took a trip this weekend to Columbus, OH for his brother Kenny's graduation from the Ohio Police Academy.  Now Steve has two brothers that are cops.  We left Thursday in the early evening and drove the 5 hours to Columbus.  We are actually staying in a hotel in Dublin, which is a suburb of Columbus.

Steve, of course, loves being back in Ohio.  After the graduation, we walked around The Ohio State University campus.  I had never seen it, so it was cool to be there.  I bet it's crazy there on game days. I, unfortunately, did not wear very good walking shoes so we didn't walk for very long.  We even went to Walmart to get me some new shoes, since the dressy shoes were the only ones I brought.

 I love the stained glass "O" behind us.  It's really pretty.  The most fun thing about these pictures on campus is that complete strangers took the pictures for us.  We walked up and they were talking pictures of people that we though was their family, but I guess they didn't know them either.  People in Ohio are so friendly.

This morning, we met with one of Steve's friends for breakfast and later this afternoon we are going to be meeting with Steve's old youth pastor. Weather here is really beautiful.

Our Elfster Gift

Our gift came in the mail today. The socks look so soft and fuzzy.  I can't wait to wear them around the house.  Steve got an Ohio State t-shirt.  He is pretty happy about that too.

The card says, "May the beauty of God's love bless you this Christmas. Best wishes for a new year filled with peace, love, beauty, and joy.". The personal message inside was so sweet.

Girls Night Out Project

This is the project I made at Pottery Schmottery during our Girls Night Out. It turned out pretty good, I think. It's a football shaped snack bowl.

Girls Night Out and Windows Weekend

This weekend was fun and busy. On Friday, Shere, Tabby, my sister, and I got together for our Girls Night Out. We went to Pottery Schmottery in Elkhart. I am so not talented when it comes to crafts, but it was really fun. I think my project turned out pretty good actually. We pick them up next Friday, so I will post a picture when I get it back. After created our masterpieces, we went to an Italian restaurant called Lucchese's Italian Restaurant in Elkhart. Yummy!

We got our windows this weekend. Steve started to project on Thursday created the rough opening for the big window in the front of the house. The orginal window went almost all the way to the ground and the new window was going to be not as tall. That meant that Steve had to create a new opening and put new siding on the outside. Our friend Bobby came over to help him on Thursday. Thursday we also had Mighty Ducts come over and clean our ducts out.

On Friday, Pella came and installed the big window in the front. Since it was so big, we decided to have them install it and Steve installed the rest. When I came home from work on Thursday, I came home to a big whole in our house. I was excited when I came home from the Girls Night Out on Friday to a new window. :o)

On Saturday, my dad, our friend Bobby, and our friend Josh came over to help Steve do the rest of the windows. Steve originally thought that we would have to take the drywall off the walls to make them fit. The side frames of the window on our house are part of the stud of the house, so he thought he might have to create the rough opening. It turned out that after some discussion and testing of some things that we did not have to take off the drywall. Unfortunetly, they decided this after we had already removed the drywall in the middle room and part way in the back room. :o( Oh well. Steve is going to keep the old insullation and put it in the attic and put new insullation in the two rooms, so I guess something good is going to come out of it.
My mom and I worked on the drywall removal and the cleaning up of the insullation and dust that came from all that. Of course, we had the Ohio State and Notre Dame games on while all the work was being done. OSU pulled a huge win and Notre Dame won but it was close.

Sunday, we got up for church and then came back home to finish the job. My dad came back over to help Steve put back on the siding and my mom and I cleaned some more. It was a busy weekend. I was so tired Sunday night.

Weekend Fun: Date Night, Stripping Wallpaper, Ohio State

Steve and I decided to go on a long overdue date night on Friday. I can't even remember the last movie we saw in the theater. We received a gift card to Olive Garden for a gift, so we decided to go there. We also has a coupon for Olive Garden, so that kinda sealed the decision. We both had the Never Ending Pasta Bowls. They were very tasty. I love that resturant, but we don't get to go out very often. After dinner, we went to the Dollar Theater and saw the movie UP. That movie was so cute. It actually started out really sad. The whole movie is about the man's desire to keep a promise he made to his wife. A little Wilderness Scout goes with him along for the journey. I won't spoil the ending for you, in case you haven't seen it, but it's so worth going to see. Very fun! I give it 2 Thumbs WAY UP! haha. No pun intended, of course.

On Saturday, Steve had to go into work and clean the carpets. When he got home, we finished stripping the wallpaper in the "Ohio State Room." The wallpaper has completely removed from the wall. Now we just have to prime and paint the walls. I can't wait to be done with the room. Hopefully, we get it done before the season is over. I think Steve wants to be able to watch a game while sitting in the "Ohio State Room."
While we were we working on the room, we were listening the Michigan/Notre Dame game on the radio. Michigan won in the last few minutes. We were both very happy.

The Ohio State game ended, unfortunetly, just about the same way. Last year, USC killed Ohio State so it was nice to Ohio State ahead for a good part of the game. Both teams fought very hard, but unfortunetly OSU lost in the last few minutes when USC got a touchdown and managed to win by 3 points. I was hoping OSU would be able to get back within field goal range and tie it up...but they didn't. :o(

"Staycation": The Weekend

On Friday, Steve said we were acting like an old married couple because we went out to lunch at 4pm, then at around 8:30 we went to Menards and Walmart, not because we needed anything, just to get out of the house and go for a walk. Friday was pretty uneventful. Steve did finish his Ohio State room.

Saturday was a bit of a rainy day. I got up and worked on some of my postcard scrapbooking. I haven't done much with them for awhile because I didn't have the space to spread out or the time. Saturday afternoon was football time. We watched most of the Notre Dame game and laughed to ourselves at all the people getting wet. We were a bit disapointed that they won, but it was a good game. The smell of all the barbeques outside made me want some, so Steve grilled barbeque chicken. We ended up making it on our George Foremen grill since it was raining pretty hard still.

Saturday evening was the Ohio State and USC game. Poor Ohio State did not do so well. We are hoping for a better game next week.

On Sunday, we got up for church. It was raining again. We had originally planned to join my parents at the B100 Birthday Bash after church, but it was canceled due to weather. I did have to go out and brave the rain though. I had to do some grocery shopping so Steve and I would have some food to eat. That is pretty important because Steve likes to eat. Aldi wasn't to flooded but I still got pretty wet running in and out. Martins was a whole nother story though. I pulled into the parking lot and felt like I was driving through a small lake. I named it Lake Martins. I picked a spot to park and started to get out of my car and realized when I opened the door that water was almost up to the door. So I decided to park somewhere else. I finally found a somewhat dry place to park that wasn't to far away. I got out of my car only to realize that in order to get to the Martins door I would have to walk through "Lake Martins." It was ankle deep and deeper in most places. I went in and quickly got the few things we needs and threaded back through the lake to get to my car. I was very happy when I finally got home. Once I got home, we stayed inside until it stopped raining. We got almost 11 inches of rain both Saturday and Sunday.
To end our vacation, we went for a nice walk and then went to bed.
All and all it was a relaxing "staycation."

"Staycation" Day 1

Steve and I took a week off from both jobs this week for a vacation. We aren't actually going anyway. We just wanted some days to relax. Our "Staycation", as the media has been calling it, was pretty uneventful yesterday. Which is just the way we wanted it. We woke up at around 10:30-11ish and went out for Breakfast/Lunch at the Pancake House, which was very good. Then we went back home and took a nap until around 4. We then got up and I made some chili for us to eat tommorrow and Steve made some Hamburgers on the grill for us to eat for dinner. Steve then went to work on painting our spare room. He is painting the room in Ohio State colors. After dinner, we sat around and watched some TV and then Steve decided he wanted to make some Chocolate Chip cookies, so he did. They were really good.
Steve finished up the "O" in the spare room and I went to bed at around midnight.

Today, Steve is going to try and finish up the room and hopefully finish the living room too. Yesterday was a great relaxing day to start the vacation. I'm not sure what we will do today. We are sorta going to play it by ear.

Anyone need a Christmas present idea? I know it's a little pricey, but he's worth it, right? Doesn't it look so comfy?

haha...actually I found this while looking for new furniture. Steve and I decided that is the next big purchase we are saving up for. We have one couch that used to be my grandparents and it is falling apart and our other couch is small and I also got it used during college. We don't want expensive furniture, just something comfortable. We may buy "gently used" again instead of new to save money. We will just have to see how much money we get saved up.
