What a Great Weekend!

Even though I had to work Saturday, it was a great weekend.  Sunday was an absolutely beautiful day.  I woke up feeling rested and hopeful for the future.  I can see bright things ahead.  The sun was shining bright and we had our first Wycliffe presentation at church.  We were both pretty nervous, so I hope it went okay.  Our small group has been so supportive of us and feel privileged to be sent out by such a great group of people.  We have another small presentation with a pastor in Plymouth tomorrow.  Hopefully, that will go well too.

I actually didn't have to work after church.  Shocking, I know!  We spent the rest of the day just relaxing at home.

I sat outside in the sun and read a book that I've been trying to read since January.  With all the crazy stress going on since the beginning of the year and working so much, I just haven't had the time or energy to sit and read.  I also decided on Sunday that my car was badly in need of a bath and yard looked thirsty.  So now my car is all clean and front yard has been watered.  Of course, because I did that it rained on Sunday night. :o( Oh well, now the back yard is watered too. Sunday evening, Steve and I used a gift card and went to see The Avengers in theater.  I actually liked the movie.  It was a little slow starting, but the end I thought was pretty well done.  It just proves that you can make a good movie without a bunch of foul language and unnecessary violence.

It was great to have a day to just to relax and forget all stress.  There are things that happen to you in life that make you realize what's really important.  This weekend, just a relaxing evening with Steve, was important.

Thursday Date Night: Rio

I love Thursdays from Red  Box.  Every week, I get a code texted to my phone for a free movie.  Last night for dinner, I made a Cheesy Chicken and noodle casserole with green/red peppers and mushrooms.  It turned out great.  Very cheesy!

Then we went over to our local Red Box and picked out a movie.  Steve wanted to see Rio.  It's a movie about a bird that gets bird-napped by an exotic pet shop and ends up lost in a small town in Minnesota when he fell off the truck.  He is found by a little girl who raises him as her pet.  She names him Blu.  He is a very spoiled, happy bird until a scientist comes to find him and says he is the last of his species.  The scientist has found a female blue Macaw and they only way for their species to survive is for them mate and have baby birdies.

After much prodding, the girl, who is know an adult, decides to bring her bird to Rio de Janero, Brazil with scientist.  The scientist runs a bird refuge that finds injured birds in the wild or rescues them from smugglers.  They arrive in Brazil just in time for the annual Carnival festival.  Blu and the female Macaw, Jewel, are again bird-napped by some local smugglers.  Blu must learn to trust his new friends and learn to survive out in the unknown wild.  It's a really cute movie about a bird who never learned to fly, who has lived as a pet his whole life, and never really had any bird friends.

In all the adventures, Blu must gain the courage to learn to fly, develop friendships, and learn the value of family.  I thought it was a good story about perseverance, believing in yourself, and getting outside your comfort zone.
Definitely Pitney Approved.  Rated: G

Megamind Movie Night

After dinner, Steve and I were sitting on the couch trying to what we were going to do for the rest of the evening.  First, we had our Budget Committee Meeting so we could finalize our March numbers and create the April budget.  Then I remembered that our bank started this rewards program and I had a coupon on our debit card for 10% cash back on a redbox movie, so it would be like paying only 90 cents for a movie.  Woohoo.  We decided on Megamind because there really wasn't much else to choose from that we really wanted to see.  Steve went to go pick it up and I made some popcorn.  I really like the rebox program because instead of a movie costing us $8 a person for the ticket, plus another $10 for popcorn and drink, movie night only costs a few dollars.
Megamind was a pretty fun movie and it had a good life lesson in it.  "When there is evil, there will always be good to stand up to it."

Weekend Fun: Date Night, Stripping Wallpaper, Ohio State

Steve and I decided to go on a long overdue date night on Friday. I can't even remember the last movie we saw in the theater. We received a gift card to Olive Garden for a gift, so we decided to go there. We also has a coupon for Olive Garden, so that kinda sealed the decision. We both had the Never Ending Pasta Bowls. They were very tasty. I love that resturant, but we don't get to go out very often. After dinner, we went to the Dollar Theater and saw the movie UP. That movie was so cute. It actually started out really sad. The whole movie is about the man's desire to keep a promise he made to his wife. A little Wilderness Scout goes with him along for the journey. I won't spoil the ending for you, in case you haven't seen it, but it's so worth going to see. Very fun! I give it 2 Thumbs WAY UP! haha. No pun intended, of course.

On Saturday, Steve had to go into work and clean the carpets. When he got home, we finished stripping the wallpaper in the "Ohio State Room." The wallpaper has completely removed from the wall. Now we just have to prime and paint the walls. I can't wait to be done with the room. Hopefully, we get it done before the season is over. I think Steve wants to be able to watch a game while sitting in the "Ohio State Room."
While we were we working on the room, we were listening the Michigan/Notre Dame game on the radio. Michigan won in the last few minutes. We were both very happy.

The Ohio State game ended, unfortunetly, just about the same way. Last year, USC killed Ohio State so it was nice to Ohio State ahead for a good part of the game. Both teams fought very hard, but unfortunetly OSU lost in the last few minutes when USC got a touchdown and managed to win by 3 points. I was hoping OSU would be able to get back within field goal range and tie it up...but they didn't. :o(

Semi Carrying Bananas Collides With Buffalo

This is one of my favorite songs when i was younger. It's a great song. It's a bit long but so worth it. Steve told me about this story and I immediately thought about this song. Watch the video then read the news story.

Iowa Troopers Investigate Crash

UPDATED: 2:38 pm MST August 7, 2008

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Authorities said they're buffaloed by the crash of a banana truck in eastern Iowa. The semitrailer loaded with bananas hit a buffalo on Interstate 380 near Brandon about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Crates of bananas ended up on the road. The shipment of bananas was traveling from from Mississippi to Fargo, N.D.

Benton County Sheriff Randy Forsyth said there were two buffaloes on the road. He said one was sideswiped by a car while the other was hit by the tractor-trailer.
The accidents happened at about the same time.

Forsyth said the buffalo hit by the car apparently survived and ran off. The one hit by the truck was killed. No people were injured.

Forsyth said officials don't know where the buffaloes came from, or what happened to the one that took off.

The Game Plan

This weekend was a very relaxing weekend. We didn't do much and I like it that way sometimes. Steve had a part-time job interview at Sears on Saturday and they offered him a job in Appliances.
Saturday night we were sitting around the apartment and decided we should go out and do something. I can't wait until it stops snowing so we don't have to stay inside so much.
Saturday night, we went out to the dollar theater (which now costs $2). We saw The Game Plan. It was a pretty good movie. It was pretty predictable but I thought it was well done.
I enjoyed that it was a real kids movie. It wasn't a kids movie filled with language and over sexualized images like most kids movies have been lately. You can actually bring your kids to see this movie.
I totally recommend this movie. Adults will like it too.
